5 Oaks

5 Oaks is the school's internal Alternative Provision unit that operates within school.

Mrs Walker oversees the provision as part of her role as Assistant Headteacher in charge of Student Enrichment; Mrs Edwards is Inclusion Manager who runs the provision day to day. Mr Parris also works as part of 5 Oaks as he is the staff member who supports staff and students who may have difficulties across the day during lessons.

The aim of 5 Oaks is to provide bespoke support to students with a range of social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. The table below can help you in understanding when a student may be identified as needing support from our provision.

Our staff provide a range of interventions at school, which include anxiety support, healthy relationships and social skills group. We also provide EAL support as well as Literacy Intervention. There are several external providers who come into school during the week. These include the school nurse, a boxing mentor from Storyy, Building Resilience In Young Minds (BRYM), a counsellor, an art psychotherapist and NLP4Kids who support our students in self-regulation and self-esteem.

Students are referred into 5 Oaks in several ways. It may come from a safeguarding concern; it may come from a Head of Year via Student Support; or the SEND team may refer a pupil.

All students who are invited to take part in an intervention through 5 Oaks will have their parent/carer contacted first. We then aim to give you an overview of what we would like to deliver and ask you for some feedback before it begins so we can then evaluate when the intervention finishes to measure its effectiveness.

At times, students may need further support in which case we access external Alternative Provision which happens at a range of different providers – all rigorous safeguarding checks are made.
