Year 7 Osmington Bay Trip by Tom Rutland 7M
On Friday 22nd May 2015, 30 Year 7’s went to PGL Osmington Bay near Weymouth for an activity weekend.
We travelled by coach and even though it took a couple of hours, the journey went quickly as we were all excited. When we got there we put our things in our dorms, had lunch and then we had a tour of the site. We then got into our groups to start our activities. My group started with climbing on the outdoor climbing wall and then we went to the tunnel trail. We had to learn how to squeeze into tight tubes so you could navigated the underground tunnels, which was good fun. After dinner and some free time we took part in capture the flag before bed. We had an early start on Saturday with some of us being up at 6am (I don’t know who?) but some had be dragged out of bed at 7.30 for breakfast. First my group did zip wire, which didn’t look to high until you were up there. When you jumped off the whole platform and tower shuddered which made it scarier but it was fun! Then we did survival skills where we learnt how to build shelters and light fires. We tested if the shelters were waterproof - with some wet results! After lunch we got a coach to the National Sailing Centre (the one used in the 2012 Olympics) to take part in Dragon Boat Racing. We were split into two groups and spent the afternoon racing each other. It was pretty tiring but good fun. We went back to the centre, had dinner and spent the evening playing football and having some free time. We all slept well that night. On Sunday after breakfast, we packed and then my group headed out to do aero ball which is basically basketball on a trampoline. We then did trapeze, which involved climbing up a high pole which was about the height of a house, then jumping off to touch a buoy – we did have harnesses on!! It was quite tricky and my legs shook a lot but you did get a good view of the sea! Finally we did archery, where we learnt to shoot a bow and arrow at a target. We travelled back to Oakbank, much quieter than when we went, having had an awesome weekend away. Thanks to Mrs Segrove, Mr Prendiville, Miss Hann, Mr Kidd and Miss Callaway for giving up the first weekend of the half term holiday to give us a trip to remember. I hope we can go again in Year 8! |
