This month, our students have been settling into the clubs and activities on offer in the Widening Horizons curriculum. This part of our enrichment programme takes place from 3pm to 4pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and is an integral part of the Oakbank ethos of developing the whole child.
Some of our students spoke about the clubs they’ve chosen to participate in:
“Cipher Club is all about learning to solve different types of codes. Each week, we learn about a different code and how to decipher it. Our teacher, Miss Calder, places posters all over the school campus and we have to follow the trail by solving the clues. It’s really fun to work as a team and it’s a great way to improve my logical thinking skills.”
William W. (8K)
“I’m enjoying Basketball Club because it’s a good way to make new friends and get to know them better. The coach is from Reading Rockets and he really helps me to reach my potential. I have a great time.”
Zack Y. (7K)
“The thing I enjoy most about Choir Club is that as we learn to sing each new song, all of our different voices gradually come together to create such lovely harmonies. It’s such a nice way to make new friends in the school too.”
Morgan C. (8C)
“In Animation Club, we’re learning how to create an animated film. We’ve made clay models and images to use with a special stop motion camera to record each frame. We’ll then put the shots together in sequence to create the film. It’s really fun and I’ve learnt some new computer skills using Stop Motion Pro software.”
Euan C. (8M)
Other activities on offer this term include Newsletter Club, Dance, Gardening Club, Netball, Drama Club and Statistics Club.
