Oakbank has enjoyed a full calendar of fixtures in different sports this year, finishing with participation in the Reading Schools Athletics Championships. The competitions took place over four weeks with the girls competing every Tuesday and the boys every Thursday. Students from Year 7 and Year 8 competed in track and field events against those from twenty-six other schools.
Every week, placings for each event earned points for the school league tables, culminating in Oakbank’s participation in the Finals Day with both boys and girls competing.
It was an incredible team effort with every student that took part contributing to the points tallies but here is a selection of some individual achievements:
Scott Mann (8K) won in the 600m final
Lewis Dallimore (8K) broke his personal best time in the 80m
Deborah Sialom (8C) won in the 100m final
Reiss James (8C) exceeded his personal best in the long jump by jumping 4.8m
Jasmine Yates (8K) threw beyond her personal best in the shot put at 7.4m
Liam Goddard (8C) won first place in the 150m
Morgan Chard (8C) came first in the 80m sprint
At the end of Finals Day, the results were announced with the boys placed second in their league and the girls winning first place in theirs, proudly taking home the trophy. It’s an incredible achievement for a small school like Oakbank but our students never fail to amaze us with their talent and commitment!
‘As well as athletics, we have had football, netball and rugby teams representing the school in over 45 fixtures this year. For the next academic year, we already have over seventy fixtures booked so as a school, we’re really looking forward to raising our sporting profile even higher.
The dedication and team spirit of our students is incredible. Well done to every student who has represented Oakbank this year – you have done yourselves and your school proud. ‘
