Personal Development

Oakbank Personal Development

Intent

Our curriculum has a clear purpose and is focused on our school ethos of Integrity, Collaboration and Excellence. This is to ensure that every student thrives during, and after, their time at Oakbank. The Personal Development programme includes the PSHE/RSE curriculum delivery; Careers delivery; the delivery of SMSC within subject areas; and in the wider school community events (the school’s ‘hidden curriculum’). This includes the overt teaching of protected characteristics and British values.

Intent Intention 1: Develop students understanding of Personal Development topics.

Intention 2: Develop the character of students to develop a holistic set of values.

Intention 3: Develop the moral compass of our students.

These would include, but not be limited to health, protected characteristics, British Values, Relationships and Sex Educations and e-safety. The purpose is to develop the appropriate subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the 2020 PSHE guidance provided by the government, so that students can flourish, reach, and exceed their potential academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.

Students are prepared for life in the modern, diverse, and ever-changing communities in which they live and in their future workplace. This includes raising awareness of community and environmental issues which will allow them to enhance their own skills such as leadership and resilience.

Students understand morality in themselves and others, develop social skills and understand society (including the British values), build a firm set of personal beliefs, and to engage in the community they live alongside understanding the communities of others
